Thunder Thighs
I love Beckham's thunder thighs. I think they're awesome. But they did get us into a bit of trouble last night. I put him to bed and he was out. He usually goes right down and I don't hear from him until about 11 hours later. But last night he kept crying out, not for long, just long enough where I thought he must be kinda restless sleeping. After about an hour he started to cry real good. So I went in to check on him and his little leg was sticking through the slat of the crib. He does this quite often when he sleeps, so I went to put it back in and re-situate him and it was stuck. Like, really stuck. After about five minutes of trying to get him out I started to panic. What do I do? Break his leg trying to get him out? Break the slats of the crib? (I actually did try to but I guess my bare hands weren't strong enough...) Of course Casey was out of town last night. So I went to my second option. My neighbor, who happens to be a paramedic. Now, I'm sure it didn't have to be a paramedic to help me out, but it sure does make you feel better, you know? Not only is he a paramedic he's also Casey's home teaching partner. Double score. So I called him at 10:30 and said my baby's got his leg stuck in the crib, can you come help? He came right over with a jar of Vaseline his wife said to bring. (Great idea, I hadn't thought of that.) He lathered Beckham's thigh (Beckham is screaming the whole time, of course). Then he had me lift Beckham's body while he maneuvered his leg. Wha la. Came right out. Beckham was a little traumatized and I rocked that poor baby back to sleep. Thank goodness he's fine today and doesn't seem to remember the trauma of last night. And thank goodness for helpful and willing neighbors. He's got a big plate of cookies coming his way today:)

Kindergarten
Today was Jada's first day of Kindergarten! She is getting so grown up I can hardly stand it. I came home from running at 7:30 this morning and she was sitting on the couch in her first day of school outfit with her backpack on, asking if it was time to go to the bus yet. I have been trying to convince her to let me take her to school at least for the first day but she wouldn't have it. She insisted on riding the bus. (She doesn't realize it's more for me than for her.) So I took her to the bus stop, got out and talked to the bus driver, meanwhile she had gone up the stairs and disappeared into the bus. Not a goodbye or a wave or nothing. It was too sad (for me). Caleb, Beckham, and I didn't quite know what to do with our morning. I was watching the clock the whole time. She finally made it home with a good report: loved the bus, her teacher was nice, met a new friend, and saw her best buddy at recess. A good day. I asked her if she found her class alright. She said she was playing on the playground then the bell rang and she couldn't find her class. She "walked around ten times, maybe one hundred". She looked in all the windows till she found the right class. Hmm, maybe I'll take her tomorrow.

Are you ready for some cute?
I can't seem to get enough of this kid lately. Friday night we had some alone time. Casey and Caleb went to the Gatorade Bowl and Jada was at the neighbor's watching a movie, so Beckham and I got to hang out. No interruptions, just the two of us. It was awesome. We had a photo shoot.

He's oh so close to walking!

Birthdays
Last week we celebrated Caleb and Casey's birthdays. Caleb turned 4 and Casey turned 30. Yikes. For Caleb's party we invited some friends (actually, all cousins) and headed to McDonald's. Later that night we had another party at the swimming pool with pizza, cake, and ice cream. It was a busy day, but also kinda fun.
Presents from Owen and Griffin. Gavin said, "THANK YOU FOR GETTING THESE TRUCKS FOR CALEB!" I love his excitement.

Family Reunion
I've been trying to post about my family reunion for a week, but it just hasn't happened and there is a very good reason why:

Sad, right.
Beckham got sick last Tuesday and is still going strong. It started out with the croup which landed us first in the ER (where they gave him a steroid pill and a breathing treatment and told me if it gets bad during the night to take him outside in the cool air. Really? The 95 degree cool summer air? That's why I love those ER doctors). The next night we were in the doctor's office where they gave him a steroid shot and sent us home with some solution for the nebulizer, which we luckily already have, due to Jada being very prone to croup. He's also been enjoying diarhea for the past week, which has led to a serious diaper rash. Now he has a runny nose and no appetite. Oh, also fun was the night I took him to the hospital and Jada was home throwing up like twenty times. Oh, and then Casey got it a few days later. It's been awesome, to say the least. So, here is the post I've been trying to get done for the past week.
We had my annual family reunion on Beaver Mountain last weekend. It was wonderful to escape the 110 degree heat and get up in the cool mountains. It was also great to see all of my family on my mom's side. We figured only 11 people were missing out of 106. Five of those are my sister and her family in Japan. They were missed. We had some good times sitting around the campfire, eating lots of yummy food, kids' races, tire swings, horseshoe tournament, 4-wheeler and motorcycle rides, fish pond, scavenger hunt, family program, and the always favorite family photo.

4th of July
Lucky for us the 4th fell on a Sunday this year, which meant three days of celebration instead of just one. Saturday morning Casey and I ran the 4 mile Hurricane Trails River Run. I have never actually ran on a trail, let alone raced on one and it was a challenge. The trail was rocky, sandy, and slippery and dipped down by the Virgin River and then straight back up. I've been training on hills and thought this would not be a problem for me. Not so. It was hard (for some of us). For others (the girl who I passed at mile 2 but then sprinted past me up the hill) it seemed to be a flat road. My finish time was 34:37, a minute behind Casey who finished in 33:31. The best part of the race was the raffle drawing where I won a Scentsy candle warmer and candle tray. I screamed like a little girl and ran/skipped to pick up my winnings. (I NEVER win anything, so I was a little excited, maybe a lot of built up excitement from never winning.)Saturday afternoon we had a swimming party at the Shaw's pool and then a family BBQ with fireworks at my parent's house. Caleb and Beckham loved the fireworks this year. Jada watched for about 5 minutes then went in the house crying. She's not a fan. Plus it didn't help that one of the fireworks landed in the bushes across the street and started a fire. The boys tried to stomp it out, but then they had to grab a hose since it was starting to spread. Jada was nervous already, and that just topped it off.
Sunday we had dinner at my parent's then a little non-competitive game of soccer. Okay, that's not true. My family is not non-competitive.
Monday morning was the parade and festivities at the park for the Fourth. The kids had a great time running the races, going down the water slide, and playing all the different games to win tickets. Then we went swimming (that pool is getting some good use out of it), ate navajo tacos, watched Casey play in the softball game, and finished off the night with the city fireworks. It was a great weekend, but we're all exhausted.

Watching the fantastic parade.
Actually, our 4th parade is quite a disappointment.
The 24th and Peach Days parades are both a lot better.
Caleb and Gavin showing their American pride.
Caleb was pretty upset the candy-throwers didn't throw more bubble gum.
Beckham giving a rare smile:)
Starting line for Beckham's race.
That's about as far as he made it. After that he just stopped and watched
what was going on around him.
We still acted as though he had won the race.
Caleb and Gavin in their race.
Caleb actually did win:)
Jada at the starting line.
Jada in action. She got a little distracted halfway through, but she still finished strong.
